Valentin Șerban’s education began in his hometown Brașov, at the High School of Music and later at Transylvania University. Among his first violin teachers were Valeriu Rogacev, Daniel Podlovschi, Ștefan Gheorghiu, Adam Han-Gorski, and Ilarion Ionescu-Galați. He continued his master’s studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, under the guidance of Silvia Marcovici, and just a few of the great violinists who have inspired him over the years, through the masterclasses given, are Leonidas Kavakos, Ivry Gitlis, David Grimal, Mihaela Martin, Alexandru Tomescu, Arlette Bonamy, and Christoph Wyneken.
He is the winner of the competitions Andrea Postacchini in Italy, Mihail Jora, Ștefan Ruha and Remember Enescu in Romania. After winning the Grand Prize of the Enescu Competition in 2020-2021, he was invited to perform as soloist in the 2021 edition of the Enescu Festival with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, and in the Opening Concert of the 2022 Enescu Competition, together with the winners of the other two sections, in the Beethoven Triple Concerto.
Violin concertos are a major part of Valentin Șerban’s repertoire and he alternates, with equal dedication and passion, more than 20 solo pieces in his appearances. However, he finds real satisfaction and tirelessly engages in chamber music projects, often of a nonconformist nature. He is constantly concerned with the popularization of classical music in unconventional spaces and among young audiences, as he co-initiated the Eyes Wide Shut project and the Vibrations National Tour.
He collaborated with Midori, Alina Pogostkina, Andrei Ioniță, Erik Schumann, Alissa Margulis, Alexander Buzlov, Konstantin Heidrich, Claudio Bohórquez, Julia Hamos, Viviane Hagner, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Philippe Graffin, and Nicolas Dautricourt, on stages such as the Paris Philharmonic, Konzerthaus Berlin, Queen Elisabeth Hall in Antwerp, the Romanian Athenaeum, Opéra de Dijon, Le Volcan in Le Havre.
For five years, Valentin Șerban was a member of the prestigious ensemble Les Dissonances, conducted by violinist David Grimal. He was violinist and concertmaster of the Romanian Youth Orchestra, and since April 2023 he has been concertmaster of the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest.
