Shin Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1994. He graduated from the School of Music of the Korea National University of Arts (BA) with the highest mark and studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna as an exchange student. He is now pursuing a master degree (MMus) at the Royal Academy of Music in London, United Kingdom.
He won various renowned music competitions, which include George Enescu International Competition (Composition Section – Symphonic Music category winner), Concours de Genève (Composition, First Prize), JoongAng Music Concours (Composition, First Prize), Seil Korean Art Song Competition (Composition, First Prize), and Agape International Church Music Composition Competition & Festival (Grand Prize). Also, he received the Young Musicians Award of the Korea Music Awards in 2023 and was selected as the Paan composer in 2019.
His works are performed at many music festivals worldwide, such as Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Wien Modern Music Festival, ARKO Contemporary Orchestra Music Festival, ISCM Korea Pan Music Festival, as well as by various musical groups and individuals including Korea National Symphony Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, The National Chorus of Korea, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Riot Ensemble. His representative works include Symphony No. 1 Consolations, The Song of Oneiroi, and the Selbstgespräche series.
Currently, he is a member of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM – South Korean Section) and executive composer of Ensemble SONOR XXI.
