Michael Wehrmeyer was born in Berlin in 2002. He began playing the cello at the age of 5 and is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt. Michael Wehrmeyer gained further inspiration from David Geringas, Frans Helmerson, Julius Berger, Ivan Monighetti, Kian Soltani and Thomas Grossenbacher, among others. He is a scholarship holder of the Internationale Musikakademie in Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive weeks and activities held there. In 2023 he received the scholarship of the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb and is part of the federal selection Concerts of Young Artists for the concert season 2024/25. Michael Wehrmeyer is also an enthusiastic orchestral musician, having played in the Bundesjugendorchester, the European Union Youth Orchestra and most recently several times with the Berliner Philharmoniker. After winning a prize from the German Musical Instrument Fund in 2014, he plays a 1720 cello by Anton Posch, a fiduciary entry from a Munich family estate.
