Chang Sung Chi began studying the violin at the age of 4 under the guidance of Lin Tianji. In 2011, he won 3rd prize in the 9th Academy of Taiwan String Violin Competition and was invited to give a solo performance at the National Concert Hall and a concerto with the Academy of Taiwan String Orchestra.
He was admitted to the New England Conservatory of Music in the United States on a substantial scholarship, where he studied with Professor Paul Biss. While there, he also received the Teo-Tan Family Study Grant and the Chinese Performing Arts Scholarship Award.
He then attended the Yale School of Music in the United States on a full scholarship and was awarded the Templeton Fellowship, studying with renowned violinist Tai Murray. During his time at the school, he served as principal violinist for the New Haven New Music Concerts series. Chang Sung Chi was selected for the Bach New Voices Concert Series and gave a solo recital at the Taipei Bach Recital Hall. He is currently an assistant professor of violin at the Yale School of Music.
