Jia-Hua Chu was born in Taiwan in 2002. He started playing the cello at the age of 13 and was taught by a local music teacher. At the same time, he studied at a local music school. At the age of 16, he entered the Tainan National University of the Arts, where he studied with Ya Limu, a graduate of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music. In the same year he won 3rd prize in the Taiwan Junior High School Music Competition. Jia-Hua Chu is currently studying for his Bachelor’s degree in Freiburg with cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras. In 2019 he performed with the Asian Youth Orchestra in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hong Kong, Taipei, Chiayi, Seoul, Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Tokyo. In 2022 he performed Pierre Boulez’s Messagesquisse with the Gürzenich Orchestra and Jean-Guihen Queyras in Cologne. In the same year he attended the Rencontres Musicales de Haute-Provence in Forcalquier. In 2023 he participated in the International Summer Academy Cervo and performed Variations on a Rococo Theme by Tchaikovsky with the academy orchestra.
